What is the Shooting Star competition?
The Shooting Star Competition gives actors the opportunity of taking part in a number of films while competing
against other actors to appear in the most number of films in 24 hours.
The actor who makes the most number of legitimate appearances in the most number of films in 24 hours
from 9pm Friday night to 9pm Saturday night becomes the winner of the Shooting Star competition.
The Shooting Star competition may not be available at all event locatons. Check event pages for information.
What are the guidelines for entering The Shooting Star competition?
Any actors aged 16 years and over can enter The Shooting Star competition.
Actors from outside the local area of the specific event location can also enter.
To enter, actors must complete a Shooting Star Entry Form, (download from the specific event pages),
email a recent photo to the contact personnel at the specifc event location (or, alternatively provide photo on CD)
and pay the entry fee. Check specific event pages for full details.
Actors must make sure that they have a mobile phone for the duration of the competition.
Actors must enter by the Wednesday prior to Friday night registration.
All actors must attend on registration night for the following reasons:
• to confirm their attendance
• to receive their event show bags, includes the Performance Verification Forms
• to pick up The Shooting Brief
• to be fully briefed by the organisers
As a rule, the Actors' Briefing takes place between 6.30pm - 7.30pm.
Times are confirmed closer to the event and/or upon receipt of entry form.
How does it work for the filmmakers?
As part of the The Shoot Out briefing on the Friday night of competition, approx. 15 mins prior
to the start of the competition, filmmakers are given a list of the Shooting Stars,
including photos and mobile phone numbers.
During the 24 hours, the filmmakers should be able to contact the actors by phone.
Once a Shooting Star makes an appearance in a film, the filmmaker must verify the legitimacy
of the appearance by signing the Performance Verification Form (see specific event pages).
Any appearances that are not verified by the filmmaker will not be deemed legitimate.
How does it work for the actors?
To make the competition a little more challenging, the actors are not given contact numbers for the filmmakers.
Actors need to be resourceful. They can approach filmmakers at any time by either promoting themselves
on registration night or by 'catching' the filmmakers around the city at the various locations provided
as part of The Shooting Brief.
Actors are given The Shoot Out Brief, which lists items and their locations, on the Friday 'registration' night.
It is very important that actors take part in the Shooting Star competition in a spirit of fun and adventure.
But it is recommended that actors be accompanied by a friend or family member in case of sickness or exhaustion,
or just to help them take all the phone calls!
