The Shooting Brief

The Shoot Out Brief announced in Beaumont St, HAMILTON on 11th July 2008

The Shooting Brief lists the 10 - 15 items from which filmmakers must select five to include in their film.

These items can be anything; often they're location specific, or sometimes phrases.

Participating filmmakers receive The Shoot Out Brief on Friday night just before 9pm .

i.e. just before the start of the competition.

In 2008, participants assemble at the James St Clock Tower in Beaumont St, Hamilton

The items are to appear in the film as proof that the film was shot in 24hrs. Five out of a possible 10 - 15 items

must appear in the film. The items do not have to be prominent or shown in full.

The items should be used as creatively as possible.

Failure to follow The Shoot Out Brief will result in disqualification.

As an example, in 2003 The Shoot Out Brief required that filmmakers include 5 items from a list of 15;

one of which had to be in the first 30 secs of the film.

The Shoot Out Brief does not follow the same format each year. In fact there are always some surprises.

This is how The Shoot Out ensures that filmmakers have made the film in 24 hours, and get a real taste

of the the fun and exhilaration that is The Shoot Out!
